ZAMBOANGA DEL SUR FLOOD CONTROL PROJECT FINISHED

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has finished the construction of a new flood protection structure that will benefit motorists traversing the Sindangan-Bayog-Lakewood Road in Lakewood, Zamboanga del Sur.

DPWH Region 9 Director Cayamombao Dia reported that scope of works on the project involves construction of a 960-lineal meter lakewall with grouted riprap resting on concrete with steel sheet pile foundation.

“With the completed structure, the coastal part of Sindangan-Bayog-Lakewood Road is now protected from possible damage caused by water intrusion,” Dia explained.

The lakewall also ensures the safety of pedestrians and motorists as the road serves as a faster route connecting the provinces of Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanddga del Sur.

The P5 million flood control project was undertaken by Zamboanga del Sur 2nd District Engineering Office funded under the 2022 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
