DPWH COMPLETES SALUG RIVER FLOOD CONTROL PROJECT

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction of a 581-meter flood control structure to protect residents living along the Salug River in Mahayag, Zamboanga del Sur during the rainy season.

The P49-million project implemented by Zamboanga del Sur 1st District Engineering Office involved the construction of flood control structure on a steel sheet pile foundation along the upstream of Salug Daku Bridge.

“The construction of flood mitigation structures is vital to lessen severe destruction along low-lying and coastal areas in the occurrence of strong typhoons and heavy rains,” Secretary Mark Villar emphasized.

“The flood control structure will protect families in 962 residential houses.”

The flood control structure will protect families in 962 residential houses, along with other properties and livestock.

It will also protect the communities adjacent to Salug River in Mahayag, Zamboanga del Sur.
