ERC FINALIZES OPS CHARGES RULES WITH TRANSCO, MIC

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), led by Chairperson and CEO Atty. Francis Saturnino Juan, met with officials of the Maharlika Investment Corporation (MIC) and the National Transmission Corporation (TransCo) to discuss their proposed Rules for Off-Grid Transmission Wheeling and System Operation Charges.

Joining the meeting were MIC President and CEO Rafael Consing, Jr., TransCo Vice President for the Transmission Management Group Dinna Dizon, and TransCo Vice President for the General Counsel, Right-of-Way, and Legal Group Atty. Noel De Leon.

“The Commission had already approved the Rules.”

During the meeting, Juan informed the parties that the Commission had already approved the Rules.

“The Rules aim to establish the regulatory framework and methodology for determining transmission wheeling, system operation, and metering charges in off-grid areas, particularly in small grid systems that are not connected to the main transmission grid,” the ERC chief explained.

The discussion underscored the crucial need to enhance off-grid transmission operations and ensure reliable and efficient electricity services in missionary and isolated areas.

The Rules are anticipated to facilitate MIC’s strategic and critical investments in the power sector.

The Rules are anticipated to facilitate MIC’s strategic and critical investments in the power sector, bolster the implementation of TransCo’s mandate as the Small Grid System Operator in qualified off-grid systems, and offer clearer cost recovery mechanisms for regulated off-grid transmission services.

The ERC reaffirmed its commitment to advancing regulatory reforms that promote transparency, operational efficiency, and long-term energy security, particularly for consumers in off-grid and underserved communities.
