GUIMARAS TO HAVE SHARED COPRA PROCESSING FACILITY

A groundbreaking ceremony for the P16M worth of shared processing facility (SPF) under the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP) was held in San Lorenzo, Guimaras recently. 

The SPFs to be established include the white copra and the refined, bleached, and deodorized oil (RBDO) processing centers.

These are some of the SPFs distributed by PHilMech under the program together with the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). 

The provincial local government unit of Guimaras is the recipient of the facilities and will be managed by the Guimaras Coconut Farmers Agriculture Cooperative (GCFAC).

PHilMech Director IV Dr. Dionisio Alvindia graced the ceremony and ensured that the program will benefit the coconut farmers and that the implementation will be in accordance with the law. 

Meanwhile, Johnny Galve, GCFAC chairperson, shared his heartfelt gratitude to the implementing agencies of the project.

“We pledge to plant more seedlings for the next generation and the coconut industry.”

Galve likewise led his fellow coconut farmers in a pledge to plant more seedlings for the next generation and the coconut industry. 

During the program, beneficiaries and stakeholders signed the pledge of commitment which serves as their oath of providing the necessary support for the establishment and operationalization of the facility.

Also present during the said activity were Dr. Andres M. Tuates, Jr., PHilMech Interim Head of the Coconut Trust Fund Facility Management and Field Operations Division (CTF-FMFOD), Mr. Ryan Monceda, representative of PCA Administrator Bernie Cruz, and staff from other implementing agencies like PCA Region VI, Agricultural Training Institute, Department of Trade and Industry, Cooperative Development Authority, and DA-Regional Agriculture and Fisheries Information Section.

Senator Cynthia Villar, Chair of the Committee on Agriculture, Food and Agrarian Reforms shared her message through a video presentation.
