DOH JOINS 76TH WORLD HEALTH ASSEMBLY IN GENEVA

The Department of Health (DOH), through Officer-in-Charge Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, joined the other 194 ministries of health in the official opening of the 76th World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland. 

Also in attendance with the OIC are Undersecretary Lilibeth David, Undersecretary Carol Vidal-Taino, Assistant Secretary Maylene Beltran, and National Nutrition Council (NNC) Assistant Secretary Azucena Dayanghirang.

Among global leaders present in the opening ceremony were World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and Switzerland President Alain Berset.

Delegations from the countries present also attended the High-Level Meeting where several agendas were discussed – the Philippines included.

“This assembly is an experience, which keeps every leader rounded as we learn from the best practices of each other.”

“The DOH will impart its best approaches to other states and that the Department shall bring back the wisdom to better the service that we deliver to the Filipino people.”

The World Health Assembly consists of several WHO member states and acts as the decision-making body of the Organization.

The main functions of the assemblage are to determine the policies of the WHO, supervise financial policies, and review and approve the budget proposal.

This assembly shall also tackle present and future public health issues of global importance, which the body shall decide as a priority.
