NEA RESTORES POWER IN QUAKE-HIT GLAN, SARANGANI

Following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Mindanao, National Electrification Administration (NEA) Administrator Antonio Mariano Almeda joined President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in Sarangani province for a briefing last Monday (15 June 2026) to assess the damage and coordinate emergency response efforts.

During the meeting, Almeda updated the President on Sarangani’s power situation, highlighting ongoing restoration initiatives led by the South Cotabato II Electric Cooperative, Inc. (SOCOTECO II) together with the Task Force Kapatid Members of various Electric Cooperatives.

The NEA Chief reported that as of 15 June 2026, six of the seven affected municipalities have returned to normal operations. Only the municipality of Glan continues to experience partial power interruptions.

A massive ground response has been mobilized to accelerate service restoration for the remaining affected consumers. A total of 25 Task Force Kapatid teams, comprising 179 personnel, have been deployed to Glan to reinforce SOCOTECO II crews and expedite repairs.

Almeda said that “all the 25 contingents of the Task Force Kapatid ay hindi uuwi hanggang hindi 100 percent [energized] ang Glan.”

Almeda also mentioned the potential relocation of a 69-kV sub-transmission line, situated within a landslide affected area, as one of the major challenges sought to be addressed. Assistance from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) was already requested, and a suitable relocation site has been identified.

Prior to the situation briefing, Almeda joined an inspection of the evacuation area located in front of the Glan Municipal Hall in Poblacion, Glan.

Joining the inspection were DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian, Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) Secretary Leo Tereso Magno, and Glan Mayor Victor James Yap Sr.
