NOGRALES, MCDONALD’S GIVE FREE MEALS IN CALOOCAN

Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles together with officers of the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) distributed 2,000 hot meals to Caloocan residents in a well-attended event last November 26, 2020.

The meals were  prepared by the McDonald’s Kindness Kitchen (MKK).

The group has so far distributed 320,000 meals through its McDo Kindness Kitchen to healthcare workers, police and security personnel, LGU volunteers, government agencies and local communities.

The food distribution effort was part of the Pilipinas Kontra Gutom (PKG) campaign, an informal partnership between stakeholders in government and the private sector.

“PKG aims to provide free food to families needing sufficient nutrition. We directly address the hunger and poverty concerns in the constituent LGUs of the National Capital Region,” Nograles said.

The Malacañang official was joined by Mayor Oca Malapitan, RMHC Vice President Margot Torres and local Caloocan officers and employees in distributing 2,000 free food packs containing crispy chicken fillet, rice and bottled water which the charity had prepared in partnership with Coca-Cola Philippines, San Miguel Corporation, Metrobank and Dole Philippines.

“We’re very appreciative, in behalf of the national government, of the selfless acts of all those in the private sector who offered to help. The PKG campaign is a good example of responsive public-private partnership,” said the Zero Hunger Czar.

The RMHC is the charity arm of McDonald’s Philippines which was established in 1995. Part of its mission is to effect positive changes in the lives of children through meaning programs in education, health and wellness.

For his part, Mayor Malapitan expressed appreciation and gratitude for the food partnership between government and private corporate entities, saying “the people of Caloocan and other parts of NCR will benefit from this continuing collaboration. LGUs such as ours can actively participate in these initiatives to combat hunger and malnutrition among our constituents.”
