PH RED CROSS BATS FOR BETTER CRISIS COMMUNICATION

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) remains a steadfast pillar in the country’s humanitarian landscape, working hand-in-hand with the government while staying true to our fundamental principles.

With 102 chapters nationwide, our ability to connect with beneficiaries, donors, volunteers, and the public is not just a priority—it is a lifeline.

“In the middle of a disaster, the right information at the right time is just as life-saving as food or medicine.”

“Speed is essential, but accuracy is paramount. In the middle of a disaster, the right information at the right time is just as life-saving as food or medicine,” PRC Chair and CEO Dick Gordon said.

“We must command the narrative of truth so that panic is replaced by action and fear is replaced by hope. We lead, we mobilize, and we communicate because that is how we save lives,” Gordon added.

To further bolster our mission, nearly 30 participants from 14 chapters and the National Headquarters recently gathered for a specialized one-day workshop focused on Crisis Communication Capacity.

Supported by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), this intensive session empowered our team to navigate the complexities of humanitarian emergencies.

Participants were oriented on the key principles and challenges of crisis communication, emphasizing the vital importance of coordinating external messaging with other members of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

The workshop provided a dedicated space to delve into the PRC’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. This strategic analysis ensures the organization’s communication efforts are robust enough to meet the challenges of large-scale crises, such as armed conflict.

By mastering these strategies, the PRC ensures the acceptance of its humanitarian mandate, sustains the essential support of donors and the public, and effectively counters harmful misinformation.

“We don’t just deliver aid; we must communicate with clarity, consistency, and purpose to remain a trusted humanitarian lifeline.”

“In any crisis, communication is not a secondary action—it is a core part of our mission. It shapes perception, enables access, and ensures we can reach those who need us most. We don’t just deliver aid; we must communicate with clarity, consistency, and purpose to remain a trusted humanitarian lifeline,” PRC Secretary General Dr. Gwendolyn Pang explained.

When a crisis hits, clear and honest communication is what sustains support and saves lives. Together with its partners, the Philippine Red Cross continues to evolve, ensuring we are Always First, Always Ready, and Always There.
