REVISED PCG LAW GETS SENATE OK ON 2ND READING

Committee on Public Services Chairperson Senator Raffy Tulfo welcomed the Senate’s approval on second reading of Senate Bill No. 2116 or the “Revised Philippine Coast Guard Law.”

Tulfo, Principal Sponsor and Author of the measure, also thanked his colleagues for their support for said measure which will strengthen the manpower of PCG and provide them with necessary benefits.  

“I thank my colleagues for their support for the measure that will strengthen the manpower of PCG and provide them with necessary benefits.”  

SB No. 2116 expands and clarifies the PCG’s powers to enforce maritime safety laws and international conventions; conduct port state control and random vessel inspections; detain unsafe vessels; conduct emergency readiness evaluations; regulate maritime safety standards; operate aids to navigation and vessel traffic systems; remove navigation hazards; supervise marine salvage; and investigate maritime accidents, among others.

It also rationalizes personnel classification, rank structure, and career system as well as enhances compensation, incentives, and allowances of PCG members. 

Aside from these, SB No. 2116 strengthens the retirement, separation, and disability benefits system of PCG.

Tulfo vowed to continue pushing for this measure until it is signed into law.
