RIZAL REP PUSHES FOR CHRISTMAS TREE PLANTING

Looking for an activity for friends and family for the holidays?

“Plant trees.”

“What better way to celebrate the message of love and hope that Christ’s birth symbolizes than by planting trees, which is an act of compassion that we do, not only for ourselves, but for others?”

This is what Rizal 4th District Rep. Fidel Nograles urged Filipinos to do to celebrate the Christmas season this year.

“What better way to celebrate the message of love and hope that Christ’s birth symbolizes than by planting trees, which is an act of compassion that we do, not only for ourselves, but for others?” said Nograles.

“Bukod sa pagiging masayang activity para sa mga pamilya at barkada, at kahit pa nga solo lang, ang pinakamahalaga ay nakakatulong tayo sa greening efforts na importante upang maibsan natin ang malalang epekto ng climate change,” the lawmaker added.

The Harvard-trained lawyer has been a staunch advocate of the national greening program.

In 2020, in the wake of Typhoon Ulysses, he launched the Save Our Forests Now program, a youth movement dedicated to reforestation. Save Our Forests Now has conducted various tree-planting activities in Montalban town, particularly along Wawa Dam in the Upper Marikina River Basin.

The solon is also pushing for the creation of a government body that would protect the Sierra Madre region, through House Bill No. 1972.

Nograles emphasized the need for more Filipinos to adopt a “green consciousness,” especially amid the greater threat posed by the climate crisis.

“It is government’s primary duty to protect the environment, yes. But we must also be reminded that we each are stewards of the bounty that we have inherited, and we have a responsibility to preserve and restore that which has been entrusted to us,” he said.

“Napakalaking tulong po, kung bawat pamilya, bawat komunidad ay mag-commit na magtanim ng puno,” Nograles added.
