Skewr at Maginhawa

I finished a court hearing early and wanted a heavy meal in Maginhawa to compensate for skipping breakfast. It was my first time to scour the area at before official lunch time (I usually visit at noon at the earliest), and was actually surprised, after driving the length of the food street and back, that majority of the eating places open at 11:30 onwards.

Skewr was one of the open establishments, and a sign in front proclaimed they even serve breakfast.

I chose the Luleh Kebab rice meal and got an extra order of Shish Kebab to try both their beef and chicken offerings. The dishes came quickly and were tasty.

The beef retained some juiciness, which was good because many kebab places tend to overcook the meat.

Same with the chicken (which came in two skewers). The chicken meat, like the beef, tasted fresh.

What surprised me most was the rice. It wasn’t the more expensive basmati variety, but it was deliciously full of spices. It packed a fair, mild amount of heat, and tasted of cumin and a bit of of turmeric.

The vegetables were fresh as well. Agreeably crunchy.

Many times I’ve been disappointed by kebab places because of the lack of care and attention in cooking their meats. Skewr, however, was a winner.
